washington, d.c., we're going to check in with them. as i said, i've been hampered myself just because we have no internet and i was able to find a land line to call in to you guys, but we realize we're in a day and age where cell phones -- we have no cell certificaservicn for some reason either. so we're trying to learn. we think that washington is okay. we think that philadelphia is okay. and then up in connecticut we're trying to find out if our west port and new haven shake shacks have electricity. sometimes that coastline gets hit hardest in terms of electricity. as soon as i hang up the phone with you, now that i found a land line, i will try to assess what's going on. we know all of our restaurants downto downtown, they're out. >> danny, thanks so much. good luck to you today and in the days ahead. danny meyer joining us on the phone. >> thank you very much. >>> new jersey waking up to major damage from the wrath of sandy. how bad was it in jersey's largest city? cory booker, the mayor of newark, new jersey, will join us. system

i'm hoping it's just the fact i've before in d.c. for 24 hours and after the weekend i'll forget about it all. i had a horrible experience. for all of the listeners that influence washington dollars, get it sorted out. it's not a good experience. it seems to me the american people are stuck about big choices, about taxes and spending and we all hope that this election is going to clear some things up but it's not entirely clear to me that it is going to. >> will the election have a monumental impact on the u.s. stock market one way or another in two weeks? >> even that's tricky. i think people look at the simple fact in theory at least romney is more pro-business relative to obama. that's good for stocks. it's not that easy. beyond that there's a whole issue of the future of the fed and their commitment to the five-year ranks where they are and under romney that would not be the case. the big thing for us in the election is the bond market. that's highly asymmetric. could be a big loser on romney victory and the stock market has to d

i've spent enough time in d.c. they all shake their heads when you talk about debt sustainability and you leave and nothing happens. nothing changes. this fiscal cliff is not going to happen. they are going to vote it down the road another year. sequestration never works. it's fairly easy to see what is going to happen. how do you invest around that? >> what do you do? they don't want any parts of equity. they know that you've made coaching arguments and have been largely right directionally with what is going on but they wonder, where do i put my money? what do you tell them? >> we have more than half of our portfolio in bonds, believe it or not. >> the things that created and made your name, let's face it, in terms of being short that market. so now you're long a lot of residential mortgage-backed securities? >> right. we own about 1% of the market. we have a large investment in that marketplace. basically i think the u.s. housing markets played out. it's about 6.25 years and we're 6.50 years in our cycle. i thin
